An overhead view the range light station. The complex encompasses 6.5 acres of grounds, set in a mixed conifer and hardwood forest on the shore of Lake Huron in Northeastern Michigan between the towns of Alpena and Rogers City. Located one and a half miles north of the village of Presque Isle and approximately 1/4 mile from the marina and 'old' lighthouse (1840). |
The rear flashpanel of the range light system aligns with a front beacon in Presque Isle Harbor and guides sailboats and power yachts past shoals and into the harbor. The range light, in conjunction with the fog signal in the harbor and the 'new' Presque Isle Light (1870) located on the north end of the peninsula, compise the operational Aids-to-Navigation system at Presque Isle. |
